Beer Tasting Number Four: Teignworthy Brewery, Old Moggie

Old Moggie, from Teignworthy Brewery

The Morris Minor… Affectionately known as a Moggie by fans (and detractors), my Dad singled this one out knowing that I love classic cars. So does he, but he lived through them – for me it’s discovering this inherited nostalgia that’s the fun part. So, Old Moggie, from Teignworthy Brewery, is one of 10 bottle-conditioned ales that they make around the year, and they also produce it in casks, so it’s obviously a popular choice.

Hoppy and citrus-y, this was the perfect addition to a really hot Sunday afternoon. I don’t have much more to say about the beer, so what about the brewery itself? I wish I could visit – they use local ingredients to make sure that their beers are properly local, and are brewing at full capacity in a century-old building! More than 28,800 pints a week are produced, which is quite a feat and remarkable for a company set up in 1994. Check out their website here.
